#367: SPOTLIGHT: Jaime Posa

Question for Jaime:

What quote or saying has been on your mind and how has it impacted you or the projects you're involved in lately?

Jaime's Response:

When I practice yoga in a group setting at the studio, it feels completely different to me than when I practice alone.

What I’m doing is very much the same. I follow the instructor’s guidance, but ultimately I’m listening to my own body. I’m not worried about what people are doing around me, or trying to make my poses and flow look like theirs. I’m simply doing my practice.

But there’s something about having people around me doing their own dedicated thing in a safe space that creates a collective energy in the room that just feels different.

I heard something recently that said something like

“When we create a safe container, everyone in the room becomes a constellation”.

And since I heard that phrase I cannot stop thinking about it.

I truly believe that everyone I interact with can be a teacher for me. Even without the exchange of words.

A relaxed body on the mat beside mine.

A sigh from across the room.

Hell even when someone tooted the other day in class and reminded me that we’re all human and I don’t have to take my practice so seriously.

We impact one another.

And I’m so looking forward to sitting together this Friday with my writing circle group (& those following) to let some stuff pour out onto the pages.

ALL ARE WELCOME.

xoxo

Amanda’s thought…

Jaime, there really is something about doing things as a diverse group that makes an experience so much more special and powerful for me. I remember being in a funk at the start of one of the last yoga classes I did. But within just a few minutes, I felt a shift. I looked around the room and it was like I knew the strangers beside me because it was almost as if their individual stories and feelings and goals began permeating the space. We were all engaged in the same movements and practice but for different reasons, and this understanding added so much to the overall experience. I think group practice and the collective energy that comes with it feels extremely comforting yet invigorating.
