Question for Alex:

What is a surprising way your priorities have changed over time? Was there a particular experience that led you to see what mattered most differently?

Alex's Response:

Over the past year I have entirely morphed my frame of thinking, which used to focus on pleasing others for approval and acceptance. My goal, now more than ever, is to be present and available to those around me without all of the ego-clinging messiness.

This is still a work in progress! As I am typing this I’m even thinking back to some interactions I had at the airport this morning and replaying whether I spoke the “correct” way to each individual…but the fact that I’m noticing it is what matters.

I partner with Pip and Kelly’s daughter, Bailey, who has special needs. Being one of Bailey’s partners was the catalyst for this monumental shift in my thinking. So much of what we do as a team has nothing to do with the superficial and egotistical stuff that our society often suggests we need. Day-to-day I have an amazing time pumping gas, delivering soups and baked beet salads, and partaking in our jam-packed teeth brushing routine. There wasn’t a single event that allowed this transformation. It came from accepting the fact that “being there” is usually more than enough.
