Question for JP:

Has your idea of what happiness means or looks like changed UNEXPECTEDLY as you've grown older?  Would you share that truth or perspective with your younger self if you could?

JP's Response:

When I was young all I needed to be happy was to go to bed happy and wake up happy. That morphed into “keep short accounts, hold malice towards none, don’t judge”. For most of my life that was it. A consequence of some principles guiding my actions. Around a year ago everything changed. Happiness became a permanent act of will, a permanent state of being. When very ill people are dying around you every day - normal in an intensive care ward - happiness becomes both journey as well as destination.
