A Backbeat of Community

Going back through the Spotlights from time to time is something I always look forward to. It’s a special reminder of the moving stories many of you have contributed. As I revisited them, I gathered a few quotes to share. I've also included the website link below in case you wish to explore the full collection of these writings:

"For better or for worse -- I am joyous folding laundry with my husband when he doesn't see my staticky under-garment stuck to the back of the shirt he is folding, I am joyous parking our car as I harmonize with the "beeping sound" it makes as we get too close to the cars around us. The minutia doesn't feel mundane and I am grateful I find my own life so charming."

- Alex LoPinto

"It was truly something unexplainable -- I’ve traveled to a good number of countries, yet I had never felt like I belonged somewhere to this degree. I’m not necessarily a big believer in energy alignment and the like, but the experience made me wonder: is there a place where each of us is most aligned, where we deeply, almost cosmically, belong?"

- Lusine Galoyan

"Later, in August 2022, we saw Rage live at Madison Square Garden - one of our first large-scale outings since the beginning of the pandemic. 20,000 people singing “Killing in the Name of” at the end of the concert was a spiritual experience and one that I tap into when I try to remember what community and collective action can feel like."

- Kim Madden

"Instead of following the clock, I try to find Kairos moments every morning. These are fleeting parts of my routine that feel meaningful or just right for something special. They’re not dictated by the clock, but by a sense of opportunity. These moments can break the usual flow and add a touch of joy or connection to the start of the day."
